Evidence Building and Citizen Led Advocacy

Within the Evidence building, Citizen led advocacy, institutional development and networking thematic area, VAD will implement the following interventions;

  • Evidence Building for advocacy
  • Promoting Citizen led advocacy

Evidence Building for advocacy


This strategy is planned for implementation to activities to conduct research on advocacy and good governance needs in the beneficiary communities and designing responsive proposals for resource mobilization. Institutional capacity development activities in preparation for implementation of the advocacy and good governance interventions shall also be undertaken as part of   this strategy. The two actions in this respect shall include;

  • Conducting resource mobilization activities for roll out of the advocacy and good governance programme; and,
  • Building the capacities of VAD’s human capital in advocacy and good governance so that they replicate the same knowledge and skills to the grass roots beneficiaries.

Promoting Citizen led advocacy


Good governance presents an opportune environment where all the beneficiaries can freely express themselves while lobbying government for better service delivery and economic development.  In the medium term, which is the planning horizon for this Strategic Plan, VAD will build capacities of community beneficiaries in lobbying and advocacy so that they can take be at the forefront in demanding good governance and holding the responsible authorities accountable and demand for better service delivery, through the existing government structures.

Through in-house trainings and mentorship VAD will build the capacities of its community structures in advocacy and good governance so that they replicate the same knowledge and skills to the grassroots beneficiaries. A top-down approach in capacity building shall be adopted; VAD staff will empower Community structures (CATs, CMT) will stimulate agency among the final beneficiaries of the different projects.

In this strategic intervention, VAD will promote advocacy for Good Governance with specific focus on:

  • Building the capacities of VAD’s human capital in advocacy and good governance so that they replicate the same knowledge and skills to the grassroots beneficiaries;
  • Conducting resource mobilization activities for roll out of the advocacy and good governance programme.
  • Empower the community structures for stimulate agency for advocacy
  • Liaise with other advocacy organizations and networks at district and national level for collective lobbying and advocacy for good governance.
